Insightful / Incite-full

The Bible shows the way to go to heaven, not the way the heavens go.

— Galileo Galilei

It’s simple enough most wouldn’t argue the point on the surface. No book of the Bible says much about planetary orbits or atmospheric ratios of Earth, let alone any other planet we observe, or laws of physics as we understand them now. But, having again debated the veracity of biblical data in regard to scientific interpretation of the universe recently, this quote is pertinent.

Note there is no indication faith and reason are mutually exclusive. Just don’t cite the Bible for scientific arguments, or historical ones for that matter. It wasn’t meant for that any more than an automobile manual is meant to understand the chemistry of the internal combustion engine, traffic laws, or the biology of human beings driving it. Infer what you like, but carefully. Do not misuse the Bible or make it an unquestionable object of worship itself. Doing so belies great arrogance on the part of one who presumes to understand all about the meaning of God. Appreciate the Bible for what is intended to do: foster faith.
